If you're looking for a card trick magician in Oxford. I'm Andy Field, a professional close-up magician specialising in card magic, coin magic and sleight of hand.

I've been performing professionally for a quarter of a century so I've had rather a long time to learn what makes a good card trick work.

I'm also a two-time S.A.M.S. Champion of Close-Up Magic. I have been consulted for the BBC television series Hustle, and my magic videos have attracted more than 20 million views on YouTube.

I also have hundreds of five-star reviews and recommendations from people who have seen me perform.

So yes, I've handled quite a few playing cards. Some have even ended up in the right order!

Professional Card Magic in Oxford

Card magic is one of the most recognisable forms of close-up magic.

You take an ordinary pack of playing cards, give them a shuffle and ask someone to choose one.

They can remember it. They can even sign it. Then the impossible happens.

The card disappears from the pack, changes into another card or turns up somewhere that it really shouldn't.

The wonderful thing about card magic is that it can happen right in the spectator's hands.

There is no stage. No complicated equipment and no need for a large performance area. You're standing beside the magician, watching everything happen from only a few feet away.

And if you think you're going to catch me doing something sneaky, you're welcome to try. I quite enjoy a challenge.

Card Tricks for Weddings and Parties in Oxford

Close-up card magic works particularly well at weddings, private parties and celebrations. Mainly because it can be performed naturally while people are mingling.

At a wedding, for example, I might perform during the drinks reception while the bride and groom are having photographs taken.

At a private party, I can move between groups of guests, performing different pieces of magic for each group.

There's no need to stop the entire event for a formal show. The magic simply becomes part of the occasion.

One group might see an impossible card trick. Another might experience coin magic.

Someone else might lend me a ring or another everyday object.

That's one of the things I enjoy about close-up magic. Every group reacts differently.

Some people immediately want to know how it's done. Others are perfectly happy to admit defeat.

And then there's always somebody who says:

"I was watching your hands."

Excellent. That's exactly where I wanted you to be looking.

Oxford Card and Coin Magician

Although playing cards are one of my favourite tools, I don't restrict my close-up magic to cards.

I'm also an Oxford card and coin magician, using coins and money to create visual effects that happen just inches from the audience.

A coin can vanish from one hand and appear in another. It can seemingly pass through a solid object. It can disappear while someone is holding onto it.

And because coins are completely ordinary objects, they make wonderful props for close-up magic.

You don't need to take my word for it. You can hold the coin yourself.

That makes the mystery considerably harder to explain.

Although I have discovered that people become surprisingly suspicious when I ask to borrow their money.

I can't imagine why.

Why Are Card Tricks So Effective?

A good card trick isn't simply about moving cards quickly.

There's considerably more to professional card magic than dexterity.

A magician needs to understand timing, psychology, presentation, misdirection and audience management.

The technical skill is only part of the job.

The audience should never feel as though they're watching somebody perform a complicated series of secret moves.

Everything should appear natural. A card is shuffled. Someone makes a choice. A conversation takes place.

Someone laughs. And somewhere in amongst all of that, something impossible happens.

That's the real skill.

After twenty-five years of professional performance, I've learned that the best magic isn't necessarily the most complicated.

It's the magic that people remember.

Close-Up Card Magic in Oxford

A signed playing card appears to be pushed directly into a solid bottle during an impossible close-up card trick.

One of the advantages of professional close-up magic is its flexibility.

I can perform at restaurants, hotels, private homes and wedding venues. Plus corporate events and parties throughout Oxford and Oxfordshire.

The performance can be adapted to the people I'm performing for.

If somebody wants to participate, I'll involve them.

If somebody would rather watch, that's perfectly fine too.

Some people are naturally outgoing. Others are a little more reserved.

A good close-up magician needs to recognise the difference.

My job isn't simply to perform tricks.

It's to make people feel comfortable, get them involved and give them a memorable experience.

If you're organising a wedding, party, corporate event, anniversary or private celebration and you're looking for a card trick magician in Oxford, I'd be delighted to discuss your plans.

My close-up magic combines card tricks and coin magic. Plus sleight of hand and mind reading to create interactive entertainment for adult audiences.

I've spent a quarter of a century learning the craft. Performing for thousands of people and discovering that apparently impossible things are considerably more entertaining when they happen in someone's own hands.

You can learn more about my Sleight of Hand Magician Oxford page, where I explain more about the techniques and psychology behind close-up magic.

And if you'd like to see what I can do with a pack of cards, get in touch. Just don't watch my hands too closely. That would be cheating.
