If you're looking for a parlour magician in Oxford. I'm Andy Field. I've spent a quarter of a century performing magic at weddings, parties and events.

Among these include hundreds of weddings and parties throughout my career.

I'm a two-time S.A.M.S. Champion of Close-Up Magic.

I have more than 20 million YouTube views, hundreds of genuine reviews and recommendations.

I've also worked as a magic consultant on the BBC drama Hustle. In other words, I've been doing this for quite a while!

What Is Parlour Magic?

Parlour magic sits somewhere between traditional close-up magic and a full stage show.

Rather than moving from small group to small group, I perform for a larger gathering of people at the same time.

Your guests can sit, stand or gather around while I perform a series of interactive pieces of magic, mentalism and sleight of hand.

There's no enormous stage.

No complicated lighting rig.

No need to turn your event into a theatre production.

It's simply a group of people experiencing powerful magic together.

And, importantly, the audience isn't just watching. They're involved.

Someone might choose a playing card. Another person might lend me an object. Somebody else might become convinced that they've worked out exactly how the trick is done.

They usually haven't.

Parlour Magic for Weddings in Oxford

Parlour magic can work particularly well at weddings when you want something more structured than traditional walk-around close-up magic.

Close-up magic is fantastic when guests are mingling. I can move between groups and perform directly in front of them.

But there are occasions when you might want everyone to experience the magic together.

Perhaps there's a gap between the wedding breakfast and the evening reception.

Perhaps you've got a smaller wedding and want some entertainment that brings everyone together.

Or maybe you'd simply like to give your guests something memorable that doesn't involve another person standing behind a microphone giving a speech.

That's where parlour magic can work beautifully.

Parlour Magic for Parties and Private Events

Parlour magic isn't restricted to weddings.

It can work brilliantly for birthday celebrations, anniversaries, private parties and other gatherings where you have a group of people who want to be entertained together.

One of the advantages is that the magic becomes a shared experience.

With close-up magic, one group might see something impossible and then tell another group about it.

With parlour magic, everybody can experience the same moment.

There's something rather satisfying about hearing a whole room react at exactly the same time.

And when nobody can explain what happened, the conversation afterwards can be almost as entertaining as the magic itself.

Why Choose Andy Field?

Scam script consultant and hand doubling on the BBC drama "Hustle"

I've been performing professionally for a quarter of a century. During that time I've performed at hundreds of weddings, parties and events.

I've also been fortunate enough to receive hundreds of reviews from people who have actually booked me and experienced my performances.

I'm a two-time S.A.M.S. Champion of Close-Up Magic, and my magic has been viewed more than 20 million times on YouTube.

I've also worked as a magic consultant on the BBC drama Hustle, helping with the magic used on the programme.

But qualifications and numbers only tell part of the story.

For me, good magic is about what happens between the performer and the audience.

It's about humour.

Interaction.

Timing.

And creating those moments when somebody looks at the person sitting next to them and says:

"How the hell did he do that?"

That's the bit I enjoy.

Parlour Magic or Close-Up Magic?

If you're deciding between the two, it really comes down to the atmosphere you want.

Close-up magic is ideal when guests are mingling and you want the entertainment to move naturally around the room.

Parlour magic is better when you'd like a larger group to experience the performance together.

Neither is necessarily better.

They're simply different styles of entertainment depending on your event.

If you'd like to understand more about the principles behind close-up magic and why it works so well as an interactive form of entertainment, I've written a detailed guide to Close-Up Magic Explained.

I've written more about close-up magic in Oxford if you'd like to compare the two approaches.

And if you're particularly interested in the skill behind the magic, my Sleight of Hand Magician Oxford page explains more about the techniques involved.

Parlour Magic With Personality

I don't believe a parlour performance needs to feel like a formal theatre show.

My approach combines strong magic with humour, audience interaction and plenty of personality.

The aim isn't simply to stand at the front of the room and demonstrate tricks.

It's to involve people.

Someone might find themselves holding the very object that's about to disappear.

Another guest might make a decision that apparently influences what happens next.

And occasionally someone will be absolutely certain they've caught me out.

I enjoy those people.

They make my job more interesting.

If cards are your thing, you can also see my Card Trick Magician Oxford page, where I explain more about the sort of close-up card magic I perform.

Powerful magic combined with showmanship and humour all day long

If you're organising a wedding, party, anniversary or private event in Oxford and want entertainment that brings your guests together, parlour magic could be an excellent choice.

It's intimate enough to feel personal, but structured enough for a larger group to enjoy the experience together.

And after a quarter of a century of performing, I've learned one important thing.

People don't necessarily remember every trick.

They remember how you made them feel.

So my job is simple.

Give them something impossible to talk about afterwards.
