21ST BIRTHDAY PARTY MAGIC
Clive contacted me by email regarding my magic services. He was looking for a close up magician to perform walk around magic at his daughter’s 21st birthday party celebrations at their family mansion in Gloucestershire.
I asked Clive why he chose me to entertain. He told me that as a local businessman himself he wanted to support a fellow business that was local in Gloucestershire too. He explained that he had thoroughly checked out several magicians but chose me because he liked my style after watching several of my Facebook videos, particularly the card trick in the video below.
MAGIC UNDER ANY CONDITIONS
Before I started my walk around magic performance I decided to mix and mingled with the guests. I had no idea what my performing conditions would be like so I took a walk around the house to decide the best way to perform my act.
Two of a magician’s biggest problems are loud music and dark rooms. This tends to happen quite a lot at parties!! However, they are both easy to solve. The darkness issue is resolved by performing earlier on in the evening during the canapés and arrival drinks before the disco starts. As for the noise issue I generally find the quietest part of the house or venue and invite people to come over and watch me perform. I have my own special little way of doing this!
PARLOUR MAGIC ACT
If I have to perform close up magic to guests in noisier parts of a venue I simply perform my act in mime. I use a set of very short, strong but visual magic effects that need no patter or talking to accompany it. The funny thing is people get it because magic is a universal visual language! I have used this technique at weddings, parties and corporate events all over the UK.
